Fred was my boss at WMU for two years; he was Provost, and I was Associate Provost. I liked working with him as much as I liked golfing with him. He was a smart, good administrator, and I'm sure he was a wonderful professor. He's been ailing for the past few years, and I've been retired; I didn't see him on campus very often, but when I did, it was with great pleasure. We laughed about the foibles of academia, which we both were well acquainted with. Good man with a good heart. May he rest in peace. Tom Bailey
